In 2003 a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These men promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Philadelphia underground. Today, still wanted by the government, they survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire "The Brigade".
The Brigade is a collective of Philadelphia producers that formed in mid 2004 with a common goal of creating heavy, innovative, dance-floor drum and bass. Their first track entitled "Incoming" was a premonition of things to come. With help from Jae Kennedy, a close friend of The Brigade, several record labels offered to release their first track. The final decision was go with Zeropoint Recordings. Zeropoint plans on releasing Incoming with a Swarm (Mason, Trust, & D-Star) remix, which, we know for a fact, is MASHIN'.
Half a year after The Brigade's conception their first release was brought forth. It was an A-side for a brand new label - World of Drum and Bass, owned by one of the forefathers of Drum and Bass, DJ SS. The track was entitled Rowdy, featuring vocalist Shannon Swain. The vibe of the tune had The Brigade written all over it. Philadelphia's prominent production company Substitution named it's Thursday night weekly after it, and with the Brigade in residency, alongside Dara and Nate Day, it did nothing but live up to it's name.
Dj SS picked up the next two Brigade tunes, Lightbulbs and Gritty City, for a Reformed Recordings single. Both tunes were featured in The Brigade's Formation Invasion mix for SS on Icestation, based out of Victoria, Canada.
